He Wants All

In our fast-paced world of technology, Starbucks, and tweets, I think we’ve lost sight of what God is truly yearning for. And although he loves us, cares for us, and showers us with his grace, God wants to be our entire life—not just a part of it.

Sometimes it’s easy for us to tell ourselves that we’ve surrendered to God. When something bad happens, we pray. When we get the new job or pass the big exam, we thank God for providing. Through most all the ups and downs, we feel connected to him.

But what about the spaces in between? What about the times when it’s really hard to be a follower of Christ? Think back to the previous devotion, when we discussed Paul writing letters of hope from prison. Are you “all-in” like Paul? Have you given yourself so fully to God that without him you have nothing else?

It sounds extreme, but in God’s eyes, there is no such thing as a partial surrender. It’s all or nothing. Christ fully died on a cross, and it’s our calling to fully live for him. He is not just an addition, he is the solution. And there is nothing more fulfilling than knowing your life and future are in the hands of Jesus.

Consider Jesus’ words in Matthew 16:24–25: “Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.’ ” A life reflecting Jesus is one built upon a foundation of surrender, he wants all.

Let go and embrace the will of God.
