Second Chances

Every year around March, I reminisce about the second chance I was given at life. It was 8 years ago in March 2005 that I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. I am forever grateful for not only following my doctor’s directions, but also taking my health into my own hands and not waiting until the doctor suggested I do something. As Pastor stated during his teaching that a heart of gratitude says “why me”? I often wonder “why me”, not in the sense of “why did I have to get breast cancer”? But, why did I survive and so many others didn’t. I certainly can’t say that I am better. I suppose it’s something I will have to ask God when I get to heaven…not anytime soon I hope.

What I have determined is that I will not squander this time. If you’re around me long enough, you’ll hear me say “I don’t have time for silliness”, and I don’t. I have very little patience for squabbles, insecurities, and the like. It was very important for me to find out why I was given this second chance, and do everything in my power to complete it.

In the same manner, you may have been given a second chance. A second chance you say, how so? Maybe you were recently divorced…this is your second chance to find your purpose or that person that God has ordained for your life. Maybe you recently lost a job…this is your second chance to find the employment and work area that God has predestined for you. Maybe you hurt someone and God has placed them on your mind…this is your second chance to go back and correct the hurt.

When God gives you a second chance, don’t squander it. Don’t waste it by letting your thoughts and insecurities keep you from capitalizing on it. God gives us second chances every day. You’re here aren’t you? What is the second chance God has given you, and what are you going to do with it? I’d love to hear from you.

Isaiah 43:18-19 – “Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it?…” The Message Bible

Love you to life!

    Lady One,

Thank you so much for this post! I’ve been trying to decide whether or not I want to enroll in a particular Master’s program online for several reasons. One of the main reasons is because a year or so ago I was enrolled in a similar program for my Bachelor’s and did not finish. That makes me nervous about enrolling again. I am currently test driving the site through a course offered before you make the decision to enroll.

After reading your post, I’m realizing that this my second chance and I need to let the old history go. Wow! Thank you so much for sharing and encouraging us to take the second chance.

Pastor Ruth I am currently living a life of second chance…as if God has allowed me a “do over” opportunity. Within the last couple of yrs I have gotten divorced, changed my place of employment, started school, last but not least found a church home. When my marriage ended I was devastated, but God has a way if pushing us into our destiny. My relationship with Jesus is even more strong because of what I’ve been through. I am determined to become the best me that I can be and trust God in the process.
