I was reading something the other day and the words “and it came to pass” were written down, just as a part of the paragraph. However, those words just seemed to lift off the page…”and it came to pass”. I researched and in the King James Version of the bible, this phrase is listed 453 times. Yes, 453 times! I thought it might have been listed a few times, but not that many…but I digress.
What jumped out at me was just that…it came to pass. In life, we all experience things that cause small irritations to things that literally rock our world (why did I just get a vision of Jamie Foxx dressed like Wanda from ‘In Living Color’? I need to focus today). Where was I…yes, there are challenges that come into our lives that seem to never leave. There are some things that you are dealing with that have been going on for years. They’re almost like that fly that just keeps buzzing past your ear and as soon as you think you’ve got it cornered on the window, it escapes; only to buzz by your ear again taunting you.
There are some issues that will never go away and we have to deal with them. In II Corinthians 12 Paul talks about the thorn in his flesh. He spoke of how in order to keep him from becoming conceited he was given a thorn in his flesh. He pleaded with the Lord to take it away from him, but God said “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness”. Even though God never removed the thing from Paul that he begged God to, Paul was still able to bear it through God’s grace.
However, there are situations that are supposed to go away. Not everything is meant to be held onto. We hold onto supposed offenses (she looked at me funny, she doesn’t like me). We hold onto unforgiveness (I could never forgive them). We hold onto anger (I’m really mad about what they did). I could go on, but life brings enough things that require our attention, prayer, and fasting. These things COME to PASS. I’ll say it again…these things come to pass. Move out of the way and allow them to pass. Don’t stand in the way of challenges that are trying to leave your life. It’s done and over, but you keep hashing it, refusing to let it go. Kill the fly and move on.
I know you’re saying “but you don’t know what they did”. I don’t have to know what they did. What I do know is that ALL of us have been guilty of holding onto things that should have been let go long ago. It’s like the child that has an old sore that has healed and left a scar, but they talk about it and show it to everyone as if it just happened.
Today, allow God to show you areas in your life where you are holding onto something that should have been let go long ago. If you ever want to be whole and be the person God has called you to be, look at that thing, salute it, move to the side and let it go on its way. You’ll be glad you did.
For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! 2 Corinthians 4:17 NLT
Question: What are you holding onto?
Love you to life!
