Influencers

Influence is defined as the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.

As a child grows it is influenced by those around it. I have been told that children who have older siblings have a tendency to learn how to walk quicker because they want to keep up with their older siblings. I was the 6th child of eight and I’m told I started walking at nine months. I suppose there’s some truth to it. I’ve seen videos of little girls who are probably around 9-10 years old who were twerking like a grown woman. They have been influenced by those that are around them.

Larry Fishburne’s daughter made a sex tape because she wanted to be famous like Kim Kardashian. She was influenced by the lure of fame, money, and all the trappings that come with it. If you are influenced by society, you might get butt implants, lip implants, a nose job, tummy tuck and the like in order to be beautiful. I remember being in high school and falling out with my best friend because she wanted me to wear lipstick and I didn’t want to wear it. Of course, it had nothing to do with religion. It just wasn’t something that I was in to. Influence is a powerful thing. Some people begin taking drugs and alcohol because of their influencers. On the flip side a young girl may see herself as beautiful because someone had enough influence over her to make her believe she was beautiful.

I came across a powerful quote that said – Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be?

Influencers. They can be people and things that lift you up and make you better. Or they can have the exact opposite on your life. My question to you today is who are the influencers in your life? Now you may say, “I don’t have any influencers. I’m my own person.” But the truth is, we are all influenced by something or someone. The question is, are they having a positive influence on you, or are they having a negative influence on you? Who is the person that is speaking into your ear? Who is the go to person in your life? Who are the people in your inner circle? Who is the person that you call when you have a problem? That is your influencer.

My prayer for you today is that you begin to look at the influencers in your life. Are they people that make you want to be a better person, to look at things positively? Are they people that push you toward your dreams, even though you might want to quit? Are they people that help you to see the good in others, and to joy in life? Do you feel good about things after you have left their presence or are you sour? Only you can answer those questions.

If you don’t have positive influencers in your life, begin to seek them out. You will find them when you look for them. Start today, don’t wait, for your life depends upon it.

Proverbs 13:20 – Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.

Love you to life!

Oh my goodness! “Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be?” I have been working on remembering that person for some time now! Wow! I love the picture (you sent in our email) of the person walking up to a group of people illustrating how we influence others, Pastor Ruth! I literally laughed out loud because immediately I saw an incident like that when I worked at Best Buy. One morning we had to be at work early, like 7a.m., and I came in greeting everyone all happy and smiling; I mean I was feeling like the sun itself, lol, nobody greeted me back and those that did grunted their hello back at me,lol! They looked at me like I was an alien from outer space.
At one time in my life if this would have happened to me, I would have immediately fell into self pity. Thank you Lord, for revelation! I just remembered who I was before the world told me who I should be! Yes!! Thanks Pastor Ruth!!! 🙂
